It should be noted that Dr. Curtis Clausen spent many years of his professional career developing an insect and biological control reprint collection, which he assembled from international colleagues who had the highest regard for his integrity as a scientist and expertise of insect behavior. Visiting scientists from around the world would frequently search for information in the collection.  There were thousands of reprints in the collection many of which contained hand written remarks and occasional corrections.  There were also unpublished manuscripts by prominent scientists who had passed away before publication and type specimens of entomophagous insects.  The collection was stored in metal file cabinets in the Department of Entomology at the University of California Riverside.  Sadly, when Clausen died those in charge of the department for reasons unknown had the whole collection destroyed.  While the disposal was being carried out, visiting scientist Dr. David Rosen from University of Tel-Aviv managed to salvage some of the type specimens, a few reprints and manuscripts that were of interest to his research.  Dr. Michael Rust and Dr. Thomas Baker who headed the administration at the time may be able to shed some light on why such a valuable collection was destroyed.
